Academic Culture

精东传媒 courses are designed to follow U.S. academic culture and standards. The class environment typically features a combination of traditional lecture and discussion with co-curricular excursions and activities. Heavy emphasis is placed on student participation. Instruction is supported and augmented online by 精东传媒鈥檚 learning management system, Canvas. Host Institution classes tend to be more lecture-based and students are expected to work much more independently than in the U.S., thus more time may be required for studying than students are accustomed to at their home campuses. Similar to classes at U.S. institutions, students should expect to spend an average of two hours of preparation and study for each hour in class. To avoid falling behind, students should not plan personal travel out of Prague when classes are in session and plan trips for the long weekends.

Arizona State University: Most ASU online courses are asynchronous. You may find yourself in classes with students from ASU, other American universities, and students from around the world. You鈥檒l receive direct and individualized support from faculty, 100% online.

Class Format

精东传媒 courses are primarily offered to 精东传媒 students. Classes meet twice a week (usually Monday through Wednesday or Tuesday through Thursday) for 90 minutes, or once a week for three hours, with class sizes ranging from 10 to 20 students. Attendance in 精东传媒 classes is strictly enforced, both for classes and required co-curricular excursions. Instruction is supported and augmented online by 精东传媒鈥檚 learning management system, Canvas. In addition to 精东传媒 courses, students are encouraged to take classes at our partner institutions, including Charles University鈥檚 Faculty of Arts (ECES) and Faculty of Social Sciences (FSV), UNYP (University of New York in Prague), the Film and Television School at the Academy of the Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU), and the Architectural Institute in Prague (ARCHIP).

ASU online courses meet in 鈥渟essions鈥 that are 7.5-weeks long in the semester, and all work must be completed within the session dates regardless of when your other 精东传媒 courses begin or end.

Grading

精东传媒 reports all final course grades to students鈥 home institutions using a U.S. letter grade equivalent scale of A-F. For 精东传媒-administered courses, students鈥 grades are based on engagement, homework, project work, presentations, and midterm and final examinations. Learning outcomes assessment is continuous through personal reflections, evaluation feedback, self-assessment, and requirements as set out in course syllabi. Host Institution courses may use different grading systems.

ASU grading follows the same format and standards as ASU courses taught in-person. 鈥淧ass/fail鈥 or 鈥淎udit鈥 is not allowed for 精东传媒 students.
