Academic Culture

Class attendance is mandatory, and students are expected to complete work and exams as scheduled. Students should be aware that academic and exam schedules may vary between academic institutions, and plan accordingly. During the fall semester, there is no extended vacation period. During the spring semester, there are two one-week breaks: Semana Santa (normally the week before Easter) and Feria de Abril (normally two weeks after Easter).

Class Format

精东传媒 classes and Cursos Concertados at the Universidad de Sevilla are scheduled Monday through Thursday and meet twice a week. Direct enrollment courses are scheduled Monday through Friday. 精东传媒 classes are only open to 精东传媒 students. The program鈥檚 core courses usually include students from the Universidad de Sevilla. Cursos Concertados are open to other international students. Direct enrollment university classes with Spanish and international students last until the end of the regular semester. Students should plan on staying at least a week longer in the fall and a month longer in the spring. Core and elective courses are taught by media professionals with experience in collaborative and experiential learning projects. Other courses are taught by faculty from the Universidad de Sevilla or the Universidad Pablo de Olavide. The program鈥檚 core courses: 'Digital Video Reporting in Context and Magazine Reporting in Context' are workshops that give students the possibility of exploring their new social and cultural environment as documentarists.

Grading

In 精东传媒 and Cursos Concertados, students are graded on midterm and final projects, papers and/or examinations, course assignments, class participation, and attendance. In direct enrollment classes, professors give oral or written final exams and, sometimes, term papers. Numerical grades are given on a 100-point scale and converted to the U.S. scale.
